Description

The module will familiarise students with the different sources of law, methods of researching into law (both electronic and paper-based), ways of analysing law (both doctrinal and non-doctrinal) and basic legal institutions. Students will learn how to demonstrate, analyse and update legal rules, learn key legal skills and be able to demonstrate a critical interest in law. Also to familiarise students with the main institutional and procedural features of the English legal system, to stimulate an enquiring attitude towards the practice of law; to introduce and develop key concepts and to apply them to substantive features of the contemporary legal system in order to develop a critical understanding of the system. Substantive areas covered are the English criminal and civil justice systems, alternative forms of dispute resolution and lawyering.
